Raymond A. Wittstadt, MD, is a partner of Greater Chesapeake Hand to Shoulder, as well as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and hand surgeon. Dr. Wittstadt earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He performed a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at the Raymond Curtis National Hand Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Wittstadt also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH). He began his medical career as a physician assistant, adult nurse practitioner, and clinical nurse. Dr. Wittstadt is a veteran of the United States Army and recipient of an Army Commendation Medal. He served as a major in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps.
Dr. Wittstadt serves on several professional committees, including:
- Performing Arts Medical Committee, Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland
- Medical Complaint Review Committee, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Board of Physicians
- Orthopaedic In-training Examination Committee and Evidence-Based Medicine Committee, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Dr. Wittstadt is distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Medical Association, American Public Health Association, Maryland Orthopaedic Association, and Performing Arts Medicine Association. His research is published in peer-reviewed journals, and he is a national presenter. He has a special interest in the medical problems of performing artists.
Dr. Wittstadt serves his community in the capacity of co-director of his church's folk music group and chairman of his church's youth group.
Dr. Wittstadt will be retiring in December of 2022, and is not seeing any new patients at this time.
