Michael S. Murphy, M.D.

 

Dr. Michael S. Murphy, M.D., is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a certificate of added qualifications in Hand Surgery. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Rochester in New York. Dr. Murphy completed a general surgical internship, research fellowship in surgery, general surgical residency, and orthopedic surgical residency (as chief resident) at the New York City University Medical Center. Additionally, he performed a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Murphy has held various leadership and board positions and has received numerous professional awards and honors. He has also authored book chapters and published research studies in prestigious medical journals. Furthermore, he is a sought-after national presenter.

 

Dr. Murphy’s awards and achievements include: 

• Attending surgeon at Curtis National Hand Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore
• Assistant professor at the Department of Orthopaedics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine 
• Appointments as Assistant Program Director of Hand Fellowships at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital

• Serves on Graduate Medical Education Committee, Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland
• Serves on Hand Policy Committee, Union Memorial Hospital (Chairman)

Dr. Murphy is distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Maryland Orthopaedic Society and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. 

Dr. Murphy's commitment to serving those in need goes beyond his professional duties. He leads a team of volunteer medical professionals to the Dominican Republic twice a year, providing surgery and orthopedic care for patients with a variety of injuries, ranging from burns to violence-related injuries.
